Mahesh Babu who is popularly known as ‘Prince’ is one of the leading actors in the South Indian film industry & he predominantly works in Telugu films. Mahesh Ghattamaneni was born on 9th August 1974 in Chennai. He is one of five siblings. He has an older brother Ramesh, two older sisters Padmavathi and Manjula, and a younger sister Priyadarshini. His father is no other than the yesteryear Tollywood Superstar Krishna and his mother Indira Devi is a housewife. He was fourth of the five children to his parents. Having completed his schooling at St Bede’s School in Chennai he then went to pursue graduation in the department of Commerce from Loyola College.

Early Acting Career:
Mahesh ventured into a career in acting at a very young age. When he visited the sets of his father during the shoot of the film titled ‘Needa’ he was noticed by Dasari Narayana Rao who then shot a few sequences with him as a part of the narrative. This film can be considered as his debut film as a child artist. He worked in a number of successful films at a young age and he also played a dual role in the film titled Mugguru Kodukul under the direction of Krishna.
Career as a Lead Actor:
Mahesh Babu’s Debut Film in Lead Role ‘Raja Kumaradu’:
Mahesh Babu made his debut as a lead actor with the film titled ‘Raja Kumarudu’ in the year 1999 under the direction of K. Raghavendra Rao. Preity Zinta was cast for the female lead role. Upon its release, it became a commercially successful film. It was from this movie that his fans started calling him lovingly by the name ‘Prince’.
The following year, Mahesh Babu worked in two films titled ‘Yuvaraju’ directed by YVS Chowdary and ‘Vamsi’ directed by B. Gopal. Both the films failed to achieve success at the box office.
Mahesh Babu’s Murari:
In the year 2001, Mahesh Babu delivered one of the biggest hits of his career with the film titled ‘Murari’ directed by Krishna Vamsi. Upon its release, the film became critically acclaimed and commercially successful. For his brilliant performance in the film, he received a Special Jury Award at the state government Nandi Awards.

The year 2003 was a successful year for Mahesh Babu. This year, he delivered one of the biggest hits in the Telugu film industry with the film titled ‘Okkadu’. The film was a massive success and it garnered him his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu. Bhumika Chawla was cast as the female lead role and Prakash Raj was the villain. The film has many iconic scenes and dialogues.
Mahesh Babu’s Athadu:
In the year 2005, Mahesh collaborated with director Trivikram Srinivas for the film titled ‘Athadu’. Upon its release, the film became a big hit and was well received by both the family audience and the youth. He received Nandi Award as the Best Actor in this movie for the second time.
Mahesh’s Industry Hit- ‘Pokiri’:
Mahesh delivered the biggest hit in the Telugu film industry with the film titled Pokiri. The film was a massive success at the box office and it remained the highest-grossing Telugu movie for more than three years. The film was directed by Puri Jagannadh and the film helped Mahesh in winning the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu for the second time.
