Vijay is one of the most celebrated Tamil film actors and a playback singer. He has huge stardom in the south film industry & has millions of fans all over India. He has a unique style of acting & his signature dance steps have a lot of craze especially among the youth. Vijay began his acting career at a very young age. He did several uncredited roles as a child artist and most of these films were produced by his father S. A. Chandrasekhar. Currently, he’s Vijay of the highest-paid actors in Tamil cinema and his fans and media refer to him as Vijay Thalapathy (commander).
Thirumalai is a 2003 Indian Tamil-language romantic action film starring Vijay. This film was written and directed by Ramana is the turning point in Vijay’s career. This film has given him a new look as he transitioned himself into a leading action hero from a romantic hero. Post the success of this film, Vijay began portraying a stereotypical acting manner, & has successfully established himself as one of the leading actors in the Tamil & South film industry. Vijay’s Early Life
Vijay was born on June 22, 1974, as Joseph Vijay in Madras to S.A. Chandrasekhar and Shoba. His parents are well-known names in the Tamil film industry. Vijay’s father S.A. Chandrasekhar is a notable Tamil director and his mother, Shoba, is a backing singer and a Carnatic singer. Vijay had a sister named Vidhya who unfortunately passed away at the age of two & Vijay was greatly affected by his sister’s death. From being very talkative and hyperactive, Vijay turned into a complete silent kid after his sister’s death.
Vijay completed his primary education in Fathima Matriculation High School in Kodambakkam, and then joined Balalok Matriculation High School in Virugambakkam. Later he joined Loyola college in visual communication.
Vijaya’s Entry Into Films
Vijay made his debut in the film industry at the early age of ten by playing a minor role in Vetri (1984). He then went on to act in a number of films as a child actor & he did his first lead role in the film Naalaiya Theerpu (1992) at the age of 18 under the direction of his father. His performance in the Poove Unakkaga (1996) was praised by critics and audience and the film was directed by Vikraman.
Vijay’s Commercial Success Films
Vijay rose to fame with the mass romantic film Thirumalai (2003) & with this film he successfully transformed himself into an action hero. His role as a kabaddi player in Ghilli (2004), was the highest-grossing Tamil film of its time with estimated earnings of ₹500 million (Indian rupees). He did many critically acclaimed & commercially successful films like Thirupaachi (2005), Sachein (2005), Sivakasi (2005), and Pokkiri (2007).
From 2010-2020, the decade marked several blockbuster films of Vijay including Thuppakki (2012), Kaththi (2014), Theri (2016), Mersal (2017), Sarkar (2018), and Bigil (2019). Most of his films in this decade focused on the thriller genre and discussion of reform concerning social, environmental, and political issues in India. His recent release ‘Master’ is a huge hit and has collected more than 250crores despite the pandemic situation.
To date, Vijay has acted in 64 films as a lead actor and has won numerous accolades and awards, including three Tamil Nadu State Film Award, a Cosmopolitan Award, an Indiatoday Award, a SIIMA Award, eight Vijay Awards, three Edison Award and two Vikatan awards, and a National Award UK.
Vijay’s Marriage Life
Vijay married his fanatic fan, Sangeetha Sornalingam who is a Sri Lankan Tamil. Both Vijay & Sangeetha met each other in the United Kingdom, on 25 August 1999. The couple was blessed with two children. His elder son Jason Sanjay was born in 2000 & his younger daughter Divya Shasha was born in 2005. Jason Sanjay made a cameo appearance with his father in Vettaikaaran (2009) and Divya Shasha portrayed the role of his daughter in Theri (2016).
Vijay’s Upcoming Movie
Fans of Thalapathy are eagerly waiting for his 65th movie. Sun pictures have made an announcement that Vijay will be working alongside Pooja Hegde in a film which will be directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and the music of the film is going to be composed by Anirudh Ravichander. This untitled project is being referred to as Thalapathy 65.
