My views have got completely changed after seeing the massive global response for Baahubali-The Conclusion and its record-breaking collections.
The success of the Baahubali Franchise
The massive success of the Baahubali franchise posed a challenge to Bollywood’s hegemony in the world’s most creative market. When the first part of this film got released in 2015 it shook the Indian box-office and minted Rs 650 crore at the worldwide box-office and is made on a budget of Rs 180 crores. Even in the international film market, Baahubali performed outstandingly. The first part of the series ended on a cliffhanger, and the common question that everyone had in their mind was- Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali? Fans had to wait almost 2 years until the release of the second film, Baahubali: The Conclusion to get an answer to their question.
The success of Baahubali 2 is not surprising as the film has been released on over 6, 000 screens. By the end of its theoretical run, this film has recorded massive revenue of Rs 1, 900 crores & established its unprecedented triumph over the global cinema. It earned Rs 1000 crores in just the first ten days of its release. The films also successfully completed 100 days theoretical run in Japan.
Telugu Cinema Market Expansion
The trend set by Baahubali continued with the release of Telugu films like Spyder, Vivegam, and Jai Luva Kusa, and others that did very good business in the international markets. The overseas market share of Telugu films got widened especially in the United States as there more a number of Telugu-speaking populations in this country.
You would be surprised to know that despite the films Spyder and Jai Luva Kusa failing to impress at the Indian box-office in India, but did astoundingly well abroad. This trend continued with small budget films like Ninnu Kori, Jersey, and Arjun Reddy which did very good business in the Indian and international market.
The success of Baahubali opened new markets around the world for the Indian film industry. But so far, no one has managed to reach it.
