Ravi Mohan who is more popular with his screen name Jayam Ravi is one of the most popular and highly talented actors in Indian cinema. Jayam Ravi predominantly works in the Tamil film industry. He’s a highly talented and versatile actor who is capable of pulling any typical role with ease and perfection. He got his screen name from his role in the film titled ‘Jayam’ in which he played the role of a boy next door named `Jayam Ravi.` Some of his most successful films include M. Kumaran Son Of Mahalakshmi (2004), Santhosh Subramaniam (2008), Peranmai (2009), Thani Oruvan (2015), and Miruthan (2016).

Jayam Ravi’s Early Life

Jayam Ravi was born on 10th September 1980 and was raised in Chennai. . He hails from filmy family background and his father Mohan is a leading film editor in the South Indian film industry and his mother’s name is Varalakshmi. His elder brother Mohan Raja is a film director and he has a sister named Roja is a dentist by profession. Ravi completed his schooling at Jawahar Vidyalaya School in Chennai and later pursued his graduate degree in Visual Communications from Loyola College, Chennai. He’s also a trained Bharatnatyam dancer.

Ravi developed an interest in films from a very young age. He started his film career by working as an assistant director for Suresh Krishna for Aalavandhan featuring the superstar, Kamal Haasan.

Jayam Ravi ventured into a career in acting at a very young age. He worked as a child artist in the year 1993 in a Telugu film, Bava Bavamaridi.

Jayam Ravi made his debut as a leading actor with the 2003 film titled ‘Jayam’ which was directed by his brother Mohan Raja. Upon its release, the film was an instant hit at the box office and garnered immediate fame to Ravi. This film co-starring Sadha was reviewed extremely positively by the critics and was a box office blockbuster.

Jayam Ravi’s ‘M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi’ (2004)

After the massive success of his debut film in the lead role, Jayam Ravi delivered yet another successful film in 2004 titled ‘M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi’. In the film, he played the lead role of a boxer and the film also stars Asin Thottumkal, Prakash Raj, and Nadhiya. It is a remake of the super hit Telugu film titled ‘Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi’. Upon its release, the film was reviewed extremely positively by the critics, and for his brilliant performance; he won his maiden Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor.

In 2005 he worked in two different films titled ‘Daas’ and ‘Mazhai’.

The year 2008 was a successful year for Jayam Ravi as he starred in a blockbuster family romantic drama film titled Santosh Subramaniam directed by Mohan Raja. The film also stars Genelia D`Souza, Prakash Raj and Sayaji Shinde in pivotal roles. The film was reviewed positively by critics and got a nomination for Best Film at the 56th Filmfare Awards South.

Jayam Ravi’s ‘Peranmai’ (2009):

In the year 2009, Jayam Rava was cast in the critically acclaimed action-adventure film titled ‘Peranmai’, which was written and directed by S.P. Jananathan. The film garnered mixed to positive reviews with critics praising the performance of the lead cast. The film helped Ravi in winning the Edison Award for Best Actor as well as a nomination at the Vijay Award and Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

The film opened to extremely positive reviews from the critics and it became a massive hit at the box office. It grossed more than 105 crore INR at the box office. Ravi’s performance was critically acclaimed and he won Edison Award for Best Actor, IIFA Utsavam Award for Best Actor, and SIIMA Awards for Best Actor (Critics), and Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor – South.

Jayam Ravi’s ‘Mirtuhan’ (2016)

In the year 2016, Jayam Ravi was cast in the first-ever Tamil zombie thriller film titled ‘Mirtuhan’ directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan. The film co-starring Lakshmi Menon opened to mixed critical reviews.

Jayam Ravi’s ‘Bogan’ (2017)

In the year 2017 Ravi starred in a supernatural thriller film titled ‘Bogan’ which was directed by R. Lakshmanan. The film has a brilliant cast including Arvind Swamy, Hansika Motwani, and Akshara Gowda. The film opened to mixed reviews from the critics and it became a commercial hit.

In the same year, he starred in an action-adventure film titled ‘Vanamagan’ directed by A.L. Vijay and co-starring Sayyeshaa Saigal.
