Siva Rama Krishna Ghattamaneni who is popularly known as Superstar Krishna is one of the legendry and iconic veteran actors in Telugu cinema. In a career spanning over 50 years, Krishna entertained the film audience with his brilliant acting in more than 350 films. He has many blockbusters to his credit and played many versatile roles s like Mythological, drama, cowboy, comedy, western classic, action, historical, and many more thus gaining superstardom and superstar status. Besides being a successful actor, he’s also a Film Director, Film Producer & Politician. He has also served as a parliamentarian.

He has won several awards including Padma Bhushan in 2009, NTR National Award 2003, Nandi Award for Best Actor for Alluri Sita Rama Rajuin 1974, and Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award – South in 1997.

Krishna’s Early Life:


Krishna was born on 31st May in 1943 in Burripalem, Guntur, in Andhra Pradesh. His father is Ghattamaneni Raghavaiah Chowdary & mother is Ghattamaneni Nagaratnamma. He has four siblings, two sisters named two brothers. He did his schooling at Naraspur and completed his graduation in BSC at Eluru CRR College. He delivered his first acting performance in a college event in a play titled ‘Cheesina Paapam Kaasiki Velleena’. Impressed by his brilliant performance, he was advised by the judges to pursue a career in acting.

Krishna’s Acting Career:


Superstar Krishna made his debut in acting in the year 1965 by working in the film titled “Tenemanasulu”. The film was a massive success at the box office and emerged as a blockbuster hit. The success of the film garnered him the much-needed early stardom.

Krishna’s ‘Gudachari 116’ (1996):


In the year 1966, Krishna acted in the lead role in a spy film titled “Gudachari 116”. The film became a blockbuster hit and it became a trendsetter for detective roles in Telugu cinema.

Krishna’s “Mosagallkau Mosagadu’ (1971):


In the year 1971, Krishna thrilled the film audience in the first cowboy film titled “Mosagallkau Mosagadu”. The film starring Vijaya Nirmala as Heroine and directed by K. S. R. Das from a screenplay written by Aarudhra became a massive success and achieved cult status. It broke several box-office records upon its release.

Krishna’s ‘Agent Gopi’ (1978):


In the year 1978, Krishna played another trendsetting role in the film titled ‘Agent Gopi’ The film also became a massive success at the box office and it earned him the name as “Andhra James Bond”.

Krishna’s ‘Alluri Sitarama Raju’:

In the year 1974, Krishna played the leading role in “Alluri Sitarama Raju” which is South India’s first CinemaScope film. The film broke several box-office records after its release. It won National Film Award for Best Lyrics composed by Sri Sri. The film won the Nandi Award for Best Feature Film and was screened at the International Film Festival of India in the mainstream section, and Tashkent Film Festival.

Krishna’s ‘Simhasanam’ (1986):


In the year 1986, Krishna starred in an epic film titled ‘Simhasanam’ which was written, directed, edited, and produced by Krishna himself. He did a double role in the film and it became a box-office hit.

Krishna established a film production company called Padmalaya Studios along with his brothers. He then joined the Congress party and won from Eluru constituency in 1989. After a few setbacks with consecutive flop films, Krishna made his comeback in 1993 with super hit films like ‘Pacchani Samsaaram’ and ‘Vaaraasudu’, ‘Number 1’ and ‘Amma Dongaa’.

Krishna’s Family:


Krishna married twice and has 5 children from his first marriage. He married his first wife Indira Devi in 1961. The couple had 5 children including Mahesh Babu, Manjula, and Ramesh Babu. He then married the Telugu actress and director Vijaya Nirmala in 1969.
