Mel Gibson is one of the most popular Hollywood film directors who is known for his immaculate acting and direction skills. Gibson is one of the finest multi-talented artists who worked in some of the most commercially hit and critically acclaimed movies. He has also directed some of the most mind-boggling films. He featured several blockbuster films like Mad Max (1985), Lethal Weapon (1987), Braveheart (1995), Machete Kills (2013), and The Expendables 3 (2014). He has also directed and produced several films and has also won one Academy Award.

Mel Gibson Early Life:

Mel Gibson was born on Jan 03, 1956, in New York, United States Of America to Anne Patricia and Hutton Gibson. He was the sixth child in the family out of eleven children. He did his education at a Catholic college in New South Wales. After graduating, Gibson wanted to pursue a career in journalism or as a chef but his life took a turn when her sister got him enrolled in the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney by submitting the form on his behalf. He made his first acting debut on stage with the Shakespeare classic play Romeo and Juliet. After successfully graduating from NIDA, he joined the Southern Australian Theatre Company where he appeared in the lead roles in the classic productions including Henry IV and Oedipus.

In the year 1979 Gibson was cast in the action film titled ‘Mad Max’ which was directed by George Miller. The film also includes Joanne Samuel, Hugh Keays-Byrne, and Steve Bisley. The film was a huge success in the global box-office market. The success of the film rested in three sequels Mad Max 2- The Road Warrior (1981), Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985), and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).

The year 1995 was a successful year for Gibson as he starred in the American epic biographical drama war film, titled ‘Braveheart’. The film also happens to be the directorial debut for Gibson and upon its release, the film won numerous awards including 5 Awards at the 68th Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing, and Best Director.

He then went on to star in a series of moderately successful films including Ransom (1996), Father`s Day (1997), Lethal Weapon 4 (1998), and Chicken Run (2000)

In the year 2000, Mel Gibson was cast to be a part of the American epic historical fiction war film titled ‘The Patriot’ directed by Roland Emmerich. Upon its release, the film became a major commercial and critical hit. The film also stars Heath Ledger, Jason Isaacs, Joely Richardson, Tom Wilkinson, and Chris Cooper.

Gibson was cast to play the role of antagonist in the American action film titled ‘The Expendables 3’ directed by Patrick Hughes. The film received mostly positive reviews, with critics praising Gibson’s direction and the performances of the cast. It won the BAFTA Awards for Best Film Not in the English Language and Saturn Award for Best Direction.

Mel Gibson’s Relationships:

Gibson was in a relationship with Oksana Griogrieva. Before getting into a relationship with Oksana, he was already married to Robyn Denise Moore for 26 years and the couple had six sons and one daughter. They were divorced in 2006. Gibson later had another daughter with Oksana Grigorieva.
