Salma Hayek Jiménez was born on September 2, 1966, in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. Her mother is a citizen of Spain while her father is a Lebanese citizen. Salma Hayek’s had a wonderful childhood and she lived with her aunt in Houston, Texas, during her teens. She attended a convent school in Louisiana at the age of 12. She then dropped out from a university in Mexico City to pursue a career in acting. She then went on to become one of the most recognized and well-established celebrity telenovela stars in her native Mexico.
Salma Hayek’s Early Film Roles
Having the desire to establish a career in acting Salma Hayek moved to Los Angeles, California in the year 1991. At first, she had to struggle a lot with English as the medium of communication as Mexican was her first language. But she was very much determined to become a Hollywood actress & so she put in a lot of effort & after small gigs, she landed a role opposite Antonio Banderas in 1995’s Desperado. The film went on to become a huge success and this has garnered her lot of attention in the Hollywood film industry. She then went on to be starred in several blockbuster movies like the romantic comedy Fools Rush In (1997), the teen thriller The Faculty (1998), and the action western Wild Wild West (1999). She also worked in several smaller, independent pictures & she has successfully set up her own production house ‘Ventanarosa’.
In the year 2002’s Salma Hayek starred in her dream role Frida & the film was also produced by her. The film went on to become successful both critically and commercially & went on to get six Academy Awards nominations, including a best actress nomination for Hayek. Her nomination for best actress academy nomination makes her the first Latin actress to be nominated in that category.
Salma Hayek’s Personal Life
Speaking of relationships, Hayek dated French entrepreneur Francois-Henri Pinault in 2006 with whom she got engaged in 2007. In the same year, the couple got blessed with a daughter in Los Angeles, California whom they named Valentina Paloma Pinault. The couple got married in the year 2009 in Paris, France.
