Siddharth Suryanarayan who is popularly known as Siddharth is a very talented Indian actor. He’s a multitalented and multifaceted artist who predominantly works in films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam languages. Besides being a brilliant actor, he’s also a screenwriter, producer, and performer. He’s one of those few actors who have a “Pan-Indian” appeal. He starred in several hit movies including Boys (2003), Aaytha Ezhuthu (2004), Rang De Basanti (2006), Jigarthanda (2014), Kaaviya Thalaivan (2014), and Aranmanai 2 (2016).
Siddharth’s Early Life
Siddharth was born on April 17, 1979, in a typical Tamil family in Chennai, and is the son of Mr. Suryanarayanan. He has two siblings, a brother named Jayendra and a sister named Sandhya. He completed his schooling at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, Delhi, and then obtained his graduation degree in Commerce from Kirori Mal College, New Delhi. He then got enrolled in S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai for his master’s.
Siddharth had developed an interest in the film industry from a very young age, particularly in writing and film direction. He pursued amateur theatre and also performed at several live stage shows and was associated with the theatre group called players.
Siddharth’s Professional Film Career
Siddharth started his film career by working as an apprentice with the popular ad filmmaker Jayendra and the stalwart cinematographer P.C. Sreeram. He then got the opportunity to work as an assistant director to Mani Ratnam for Kannathil Muthamittal (2002).
Siddharth’s Debut with ‘Boys’ (2003)
Siddharth was encouraged by Mani Ratnam to give an audition for director Shankar`s youth-centric film titled ‘Boys’ in (2003). Siddharth successfully cleared the audition and bagged the role in the film. Upon its release, the film received mixed critical reviews. However, the performance of Siddharth was praised by everyone and he won ITFA Best New Actor Award.
Siddharth’s ‘Aayatha Ezhuthu’ (2004)
In the year 2004, Siddharth was cast in Mani Ratnam film which is based on Tamil anthology political drama titled ‘Aayatha Ezhuthu’. The film also stars Suriya Sivakumar, R. Madhavan, Meera Jasmine, Trisha Krishnan, and Esha Deol. The film did moderate business at the box office and was positively received by the critics.
Siddharth’s ‘Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana’ (2005)
In the year 2005, Siddharth was cast to play the lead role in the Telugu film industry in a romantic drama film titled ‘Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana’. The film became a box-office hit upon release and Siddharth won Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu.
Siddharth’s ‘Rang De Basanti’ (2006)
In the year 2006, Siddharth was cast in Bollywood’s blockbuster film titled ‘Rang De Basanti’ directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. He was cast to play the role of a college student named Karan Singhania and the film also featured Aamir Khan, Alice Patten, R. Madhavan, Kunal Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, and Atul Kulkarni in pivotal roles. The film also won Siddharth several laurels including the Screen Award for Best Male Debut and nominations at the Filmfare, Zee Cine Award and IIFA Award for Best Male Debut Award, and Star Debut of the Year – Male.
Siddharth’s ‘Bommarillu’ (2006)
In the same year 2016, Siddharth delivered yet another award-winning performance in the Telugu film titled ‘Bommarillu’. The film was a blockbuster hit and won many state honors and rave reviews, the film went on to win several Filmfare Awards among other prominent awards and was one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of that year. Siddharth won a Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu.
He then starred in multiple films in Telugu cinema and this includes films like Aata (2007), Oye! (2009), Anaganaga O Dheerudu (2011), Love Failure (2011), Midnight`s Children (2012). He also starred in the Bollywood comedy Chashme Baddoor directed by David Dhawan.
Siddharth’s ‘Jigarthanda’ (2014)
In the year 2014, Siddharth starred in the super hit film titled ‘Jigarthanda’, a Tamil black comedy-crime film directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The film also stars Bobby Simha, Lakshmi Menon, and Karunakaran became a box-office success. For his outstanding performance, Siddharth was awarded the Norway Tamil Film Awards for Best Actor and a nomination at the SIIMA Awards for Best Actor.
In the same year, he did ‘Kaaviya Thalaivan’ which was also a commercial and critical hit. He then appeared in a series of films like Aranmanai 2, Shaitan Ka Bachcha (2017), a Tamil action comedy film, Kammara Sambhavam, a Malayalam film. His 2019 releases include Sivappu Manjal Pachai and Vadaladu.

Siddharth married his long-time friend Meghna, in November 2003. However, the couple broke up after four years of their marriage and divorced in January 2007.
