Vikram is India’s highly acclaimed, versatile, and one of the most talented film actors. He predominantly works in the south film industry and has starred in a number of top-grossing Tamil films. He’s one of these few brilliant actors who could go to any extent to portray the given character no matter how much physical or mental strain is involved in the process and no wonder why he is one of the reigning lead actors of Tamil cinema. He’s popularly called as the Man of Steel and his fans lovingly call him by the name Chiyaan Vikram. He’s a multitalented person and besides brilliant acting, he’s also a good singer and a philanthropist.
Vikram’s Early Life:
Vikram was born on April 17, 1966, in Paramakudi, a town in Ramanathapuram district. His original birth name was John Kennedy, Vinod Raj. His father, John Victor is also a supporting actor who worked in a number of Tamil films and is well known for his role in Ghilli where he played the character of the lead actress father played by Trisha Krishnan. His mother Rajeshwari is a homemaker. Vikram completed his graduation in English Literature and MBA. Starting from a very young age, Vikram always dreamed of becoming an actor.
Vikram’s Film Career:
Vikram debuted in the Tamil film industry in the year 1990 with the film En Kadhal Kanmani. This film didn’t perform well at the box office but this didn’t deter Vikram’s dream to become a successful actor. After working in a number of films he received his first breakthrough hit film in the year 1999 with the film titled ‘Sethu’.
Vikram’s First Blockbuster Sethu:
Having been released in the year 1999, Sethu was Vikram’s first blockbuster film. He had to wait almost a decade to taste success as an actor. Upon its release, the film grossed over Rs.50 million at the box office. Vikram’s brilliant performance in this film was reviewed highly positive by the critics and the film audience.
His second blockbuster film was ‘Dhill’ which was released in the year 2001 & it successfully grossed over Rs. 100 million at the box office. In the very next year, Vikram has delivered another blockbuster film titled ‘Gemini’. This film was released in 2002 & it grossed over Rs. 200 million at the box office.
Vikram & Shankar’s Annian:
His back-to-back brilliant performances and box-office hits got him landed in director Shankar’s high-budgeted Anniyan. Released in the year 2005, Anniyan went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of that year. His marvelous performance in the film got him many award nominations & he received a Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award. This film proved to be one of the biggest turning points of his career.
In the year 2009, Vikram played the lead role in the film ‘Kanthaswamy’ and was also a box-office success. Thereafter Vikram worked in a number of successful projects in like ‘Raavanan’ (2010), ‘Deiva Thirumagal’ (2011), ‘Thaandavam’ (2012), ‘I’ (2015), ‘Iru Mugan’ (2016), ‘Kadaram Kondan’ (2019), ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ (2020).
Vikram was also a part of Mani Ratnam’s historical drama film titled ‘Ponniyin Selvan’
Vikram’s Family and Relationship:
Vikram married Shailaja Balakrishnan in the year 1992 and the couple has been blessed with two children whom they named Akshita and Dhruv.
